What a joy to extend an invitation to
you to learn more about the mission and ministry of First Baptist Redlands!
The spiritual quest
arises from a deep yearning within us to be connected—connected
to God, to companions for the journey, to people in need whom we can help,
to the larger world with all its beauty and wonder, and to our best
selves. Churches at their best help people discover and explore these
connections. I invite you to come be our guest and discover some new
connections that can nourish your spirit and help you connect with
the God who is reaching out to you. If I can be of help or encouragement,
do not hesitate to contact me. |

Parents
are invited to bring their children into the worship service or to
our children's programs. |
Many
who worship with us are seekers desiring to learn more about the
Christian faith. Our pastors welcome people's questions and honor
their
doubts. We celebrate the diverse ways God works in people's lives,
and we respect the uniqueness of each individual. |

Summer worship services begin at 9:30
a.m. and combine elements and styles from our music ministries.
2 DIFFERENT WORSHIP EXPERIENCES ON SUNDAY MORNINGS FROM
FALL through SPRING
(September 12 - June 12, 2011)The music in our informal 8:30 a.m. service
is led by young adults from our congregation and may be best characterized
as contemporary, thoughtful, and reflective.
Every Sunday we celebrate communion, inviting all who desire to partake
of the bread and cup of Christ's table.
The music in the 11:00 a.m. service is led by the Chancel Choir with organ
and piano accompaniment. Drawing from both the great hymns of the faith
and more contemporary expressions of faith, we celebrate being rooted in
a rich history that empowers to explore and experiment. We celebrate communion
in the 11:00 a.m. service the first Sunday of each month.

On November 13, 1887, with thirteen members,
the First Baptist Church of Redlands was organized. The rest,
one could say, is history, but it is more than simply the chronology
of events.
Generations of men, women, and children have participated in and contributed
to the growth and vitality of the church’s mission and ministry.
Their stories reveal the power of God’s grace to transform and renew.
We do not take the heritage we share as a congregation lightly. This legacy
not only encourages us to be good stewards of what we have received, but
to see what we do today as the foundation on which future generations will
build. First Baptist is a growing faith community that stretches back through
the decades and reaches out into a future filled with great hope and expectation. Read

Come comfortably dressed in the style that best helps you open your hearts
and minds to God’s presence in worship. Whether you come wearing
a suit, tie, bolo tie, shorts, T-shirt, hat, long sleeve dress, jeans,
shoes, or sandals, we hope that you will be open to experience Jesus’ transforming
love and be empowered to extend this love to others. Our ministers often
wear robes (particularly in the 11:00 a.m. service) when leading worship
to signify that they speak not simply out of their own integrity and knowledge,
but out of the call of God and the church as faithful servants. |

As we worship, music helps us experience God’s presence, opening our hearts
and minds to the love, faith, and hope that can empower us to live as God's children.
The teaching of the Scripture focuses our attention on Christ’s gracious
invitation to live, grow, and serve as a child of God. And opportunities for
prayer and mediation allow us to quiet our hearts so that we might hear God speak
to us amid our dreams, hurts, fears, doubts, joys, hopes and needs. |
|
Like you, we are concerned about the deeper meaning
of our lives. We know all life’s answers do not come neatly prepackaged and that life can
be very difficult. We also have discovered that God comes to us as we are,
honoring our doubts, healing our hurts, and offering us new courage. So
together we study, share, and explore – seeking God’s best
for our lives and world. As followers of Christ, we challenge and encourage
one another to receive each day as a gift from God for embracing others
in joy and allowing God’s love to transform our lives and world.
With all the many opportunities to Connect Grow & Serve, you will
have an abundance of opportunities to build relationships and become involved.
Lasting friendships arise as we serve together, sharing the love of God
with neighbors next door and around the world. The First Baptist Redlands
Family shares in over a century of service. We invite you to become part
of this great and significant tradition |

We want to support you wherever you are on your faith
journey. Visitors are always welcomed. You do not need a Baptist background
to grow with us. If you are looking for a church home, we will accept your
transfer of membership from any Christian church. If you are beginning
anew your Christian journey, we will help provide a good start. People
are received into the membership of FBC Redlands on the basis of their
desire to follow Christ and their commitment to support the ongoing mission
God has given us as a congregation both locally and globally.
Wherever you are on your faith journey, whether you are just beginning your faith
journey, or have been following Jesus since childhood, we will help provide
a foundation that will encourage you to grow in your love for God and neighbors
near and far. Together we will discover and explore the excitement of a growing
and active faith. Our pastors are available to answer any questions you might
have about church membership and the meaning of Christ for your life. |

as the foundation on which future generations will build. First Baptist
is a growing faith community that stretches back through the decades and
reaches out into a future filled with great hope and expectation.
Since 1887, The First Baptist Church of Redlands has been a beacon of hope
and renewal for people across the East Valley and beyond. Known through
the years for our strong local ministries, First Baptist seeks to be a
responsible partner with people all across the globe. In recent years,
this commitment to the local community and the world has been demonstrated
by the creation of the Mustard Seed Tutorial Center in Redlands and by
a partnership with a church and school in La Concepcion, Nicaragua, sponsoring
dental and work teams to serve in this impoverished community.
The First Baptist Church of Redlands was instrumental in the creation of
the Christian Counseling Service of Redlands, the building of Casa de la
Vista retirement community, and the founding of the University of Redlands.
Newton Fields, the first President of the University, was, in fact, the
pastor of First Baptist. Today, the church is committed to an embracing,
holistic, global ministry. Our goal is to invite and challenge people to
grow in faith, hope, and love—discovering God’s best in Christ.
As stated in the church’s mission statement, First Baptist is committed
to sharpening the mind, widening the heart, and deepening the spirit as
it invites people to together.
The First Baptist Church of Redlands blends the traditional and the contemporary.
The deep roots of its tradition allow First Baptist to experiment with
the new yet have a profound respect for the old with an openness of meeting
today’s needs. |
