Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example
in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy
4:12 (NRSV)
"It's funny: I always imagined when I was a kid that adults
had some kind of inner toolbox, full of shiny tools: the saw of
discernment, the hammer of wisdom, the sandpaper of patience. But
then when I grew up I found that life handed you these rusty bent
old toolsfriendships, prayer, conscience, honestyand
said, Do the best you can with these, they will have to do. And
mostly, against all odds, they're enough." Anne

Here’s what I suspect about Jesus: he probably wasn’t a whole lot of fun to be around at first. I mean, really. He told people to live in poverty, threw things, told nonsensical parables, insisted on walking everywhere, and was most likely the kind of person who unintentionally makes you feel really inadequate about your prayer life. So why do we spend all this time trying to be like him? Well, he’s got the whole incarnate deity thing happening, which you have to admit is at least interesting if not immediately life-altering. But I think the really appealing thing about the guy was that he just so darn earnest. He might have been a little overwhelming for the people around him, but at the end of the day, he just wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of. He taught, he travelled, he talked and talked and talked, and sometimes performed miracles, all so that the people he was around could be loved the in the ways they needed to be loved. And while we’re not entirely Christ-like around here, the same general sentiment is there. We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to model that strange, but honest savior-man in a bunch of enlightening, motivating, entertaining, lively, loving ways.
We’d love to have you come take this remarkable ride with us.
